2010 THE LILYWORLD GOES MEXICAN!!
LILYWORLD have created a Mexican plaza where you’ll lose yourself in a Kooky Karnival Mexican style. From Yucatan to Tijuana, from Playa del Loco to Citadel la Loony LILYWORLD’s four gringos, Signor Gringo Duckpondo, Hermano Heavy G Chico Christo, & El Honcho Kronicho find themselves on a bender down Mehico way. Come join these amigos and their Latino friends as they blast their way though a fun filled fiesta complete with tequila, mules, sombreros, senioritas, mariachis and more!
You won’t want to miss the Mexican Fiasco Hour! A Mexican fiesta compete with the HUMAN PINYATA and Heavy Gees EXTREME FEED cuisine battle. SALSA FIGHTSare just the beginning….Is that Mexican Greg charging towards us?
Become one with your lost Latina persona and let the inner gringo run free!
Before we give you the low down on who’s playing this party, we wanted to let you know LILYWORLD CHOOSES PEDAL-POWERED SUSTAINABILITY!
Recharge and relax! This year we take another step towards punter-driven sustainability with our PEDAL POWERED PRECINCT! Pedal powered stooge-machines will be used to recharge your mobile phones and keep our inflatable goon nice and puffed up. Relax in the shade and recharge your overworked mobile phone, courtesy of our Pedal Powered People grinding away so you can check your e-stooge twitter account while listening to adult only inappropriate insults coming from the stage (many thanks to our friends at Wilderness Society and Future Spark). Nice.
And now (maraca shake please) LILYWORLD 2010 proudly presents….
Before there was Kool Keith, Old Dirty Bastard or 2 Live Crew - before there was hip-hop, for that matter - there was BLOWFLY, performing X-rated songs with a funky groove. Many people cite BLOWFLY as being the first rapper with his 1980 self-pressed "Rap Dirty" record. Sampled by many, including: The Jurassic 5, Ice Cube, Atmosphere, P Diddy, Beyonce and Wu Tang Clan, BLOWFLY's sounds are a staple of modern-day hip-hop. (ALLSHOWS)
An innovator in the Tijuana electronic music and video scene, DJ CHUCUCHU pumps out infectious Latin rhythms while his visual accompaniment will transport you to a familiar Cumbia fiesta. The recent wave of Cumbia music that has enveloped most of Latin America has a very active node across the border towns of northern Mexico. Tijuana’s electronic musicians have embraced this wave with gusto (ALL SHOWS)
Montreal DJ and producer POIRIER mixes fresh Caribbean sounds including dancehall and soca with electro to create a dance floor frenzy to rival the best Carnival celebrations around the world. Joined on stage by MC ZULU, their sound is equal parts lilting calypso melodies, driving percussion and traditional chutney sounds from the West Indies. Welcome to the future of jump-and-wave riddims, with our guarantee that nuff towels will be hoisted in the air and twisted madly in appreciation. Equal parts grimey, sweat inducing and fun-as-hell, POIRIER FEAT. MC ZULU will lift the steamy roof of the Lilyworld well into the hot nights of mayhem and lunacy (ALL SHOWS)
Femcee MAYA JUPITER is looking forward to “Getting on a stage and having fun with people, sharing stories and dancing my butt off”. She will bring the hip-hop sunshine to BIG DAY OUT 2010. A former Triple J radio host, regular Channel [V] presenter and ARIA nominee, JUPITER has spent much of 2009 in Los Angeles working on her second album and injecting a healthy dose of Latin flavour to her sound. But this summer she’s heading home. Share it and shake it with MAYA JUPITER at BIG DAY OUT 2010. (ALL AUSTRALIAN SHOWS)
According to Dave Graney, GAYLORD LOVELACE AND SMOKE MACHINE IS Melbourne’s greatest unsigned artist. As Lovelace says “I don't do gigs baby”. LILYWORLD is a special unique exception. “We’ve got everything against us. We’re over 50. We’re a covers band. My voice is fucked”. Smoke Machine's real talent is their capacity to continue. To change: yet stay the same.Their change is with the times.Their sameness lies in the authoritive greatness of their electrifying performance.Smoke Machine is what music awakens within us. It is not the guitars nor the beating of the drums. It is not Gaylord's bittersweet cadenza. It is nearer and much farther than each and any of those. Smoke Machine.Yesterday's music for tomorrows people. (MELBOURNE and ADELAIDE)
With cuiffs sharp enough to slice a mexican cerdo asado in two and more hi-speed pelotes than a bolt of light from Los ano de Dios, mariachi rock n roll spectacular THE PUTA MADRES BROTHERS are the world's only surviving one-man-band times 3. Three giant bassdrums and three giant guitarras armed by three runaways from the Zapatista liberation army. They will set your ass on fire if not theirs.(GOLD COAST, MELBOURNE, ADELAIDE and PERTH)
LILYWORLD welcomes CLAIRY BABY BROWNE AND THE BANGIN RACKETTES. Smoother than silk, honey-dripping vocal quartet with style, sass and panache, these girls will take you deep into your inner souls. (SYDNEY and MELBOURNE)
Australia’s least likely World Touring rock and rollers, THE GOONS OF DOOM are set to take over LILYWORLD this summer. With songs and sounds of pirates and adventures and romance on the clipper, immortalized for the hip set, the lonely loser, the sentimental soul and guttertrash fucks alike, GOONS OF DOOM are set to surf and destroy the Lilyworld stages (GOLD COAST and SYDNEY).
LILYWORLD is also pleased to welcome everybody’s boy BAngs! direct from pre-ironic Sudan, via YouTube in Footscray. BAngs! has had a hard life, but he wants to take us to the movies…..(SYDNEY and MELBOURNE)
INTRODUCING THE EGODESIC DOME with SACA LA MOIS DJ! We present our own ego-desic dome as a second space of fantasy and pleasure, presented by Australia’s own Cumbia Kid, SACA LA MOIS DJ!! of the Cumbian Cosmonauts. Just wander into the amazing ego dome full of mohitos, pinyatas, chico's, tequillas and latino rhythms that will sweep you away to a playa with a sombrero and a cheap hangover.
As always, LILYWORLD is proud to present more fresh talent in every city we visit. Rocking Auckland for BIG DAY OUT 2010 is legendary DJ’s The Turnaround crew, dynamic Farmer Pimp blending a touch of spice with a little sweetener, our favourite reggae rockers Tahuna Breaks alongside superstars of dance- the Real Hot Bitches, and burlesque rockers V Dentatas who will also play Melbourne.
Hard rock boys BigPhallica will blow you away at Sydney alongside psychedelic club kid MC Gaffe, and circus kids This Side Up Acrobats.
